Nakayama ME-RISE - Creating Nakayama Future Project
Let's draw a "future map of Nakayama (ME-RISE)" in which each and every one of us living in Nakayama (me) grows, improves, and develops (rise) toward the future. The name "ME-RISE" was given with this in mind.
Main purpose of the activity
Our community association has a long history, having been established in 1965. In the past, we have taken many progressive initiatives and have earned a certain reputation from the neighborhood.
However, due to the declining birthrate and aging population, it is becoming increasingly difficult to continue traditional community association activities. In light of this situation, we have decided to launch a new project.
Since the Corona disaster, the concerns and problems faced by local residents have become increasingly diverse. Under these circumstances, there is a need to create new opportunities for mutual aid.
Let's think together about a livable community association.
Major Topics of Discussion
(1) Clarification of the benefits of being an autonomous member
Since the difference between non-Association members and Association members is not so great in daily life, we will consider measures to differentiate the benefits received so that the benefits of being a self-governance member can be felt.
(2) Restructuring of Residents' Association events
We will review our customary events from the ground up and abolish those that should be abolished and implement those that should be newly implemented in order to create new opportunities for mutual aid and exchange after the Corona disaster.
(3) Formulate a specific plan for the repair of the community center
We will begin specific exit studies, including obtaining rough estimates assuming total demolition and rebuilding, and estimating subsidies from the city. Ultimately, we aim to reduce the membership fee in the next few years.

Record of Activities
May 2023
- An initial meeting was held by 10 volunteers. Meeting was held to familiarize the participating members with each other and assign roles.
- Decided to have subcommittees (irregular, online available) for each of the three main study themes, and to have regular meetings (once a month at the Jichi Kaikan) as a place to share overall issues and progress.
June 2023
- Share the issues that each member of the community association feels are important to the community association.
- Priorities are assigned to each issue and which themes are to be considered for resolution.
- Members shared the concern that while there is a need to differentiate between the benefits of self-governing associations and non-self-governing members in order to emphasize the benefits of self-governing associations, the direction of exclusion would lead to confrontation.
- On the other hand, it was also commonly recognized that free-riding is not without blame, and that so-called "candy and whip" arrangement is also necessary.
July 2023
- Progress sharing for each study theme (see details in "Records for each theme" at the bottom of this page)
August 2023
- Progress sharing for each study theme (see details in "Records for each theme" at the bottom of this page)
September-October 2023
- The study was temporarily suspended except for Subcommittee 02, as members were assigned to support the planning of the Nakayama Festival. (Results will be presented in " Nakayama Festival ")
